Structural Analysis

Typical structural analysis starts with the primary load path and follows it through to the critical connection details and secondary design components.  Careful analysis and application of the governing design codes are required to keep a design safe while remaining optimized.

 

There are also many situations that fall outside the details of a code and require the careful application of analysis with experience to get things right the first time.  We have this experience in commercial buildings, drilling rigs, equipment handling, transportation regulations, ground bearing pressure requirements and seismic analysis.

Finite Element Analysis (FEA)

Our team specializes in advanced Finite Element Analysis (FEA).  Sometimes all that is required is a static linear study to quickly understand the limitations of a design such as finding the limiting stress points, displacement under load, or optimizing the material used. 

 

However, there are other times that critical details are missed with a simplified approach that contains many assumptions.  We have years of experience in complex non-linear studies using advanced material behavior, contact interactions, and high strain models.  We also have the ability to include thermal loads, fatigue effects, and dynamic/transient loading over time. 

Failure Investigation

Product failures are an unfortunate part of all industries.  However, after the initial damage is under control, we have found the investigation of a failure to be one of the greatest sources of continuous improvement for both products and processes. 

 

We can offer professional, unbiased engineering reporting on the facts of a situation that you can rely upon in the often tense aftermath of a failure.  We can also be involved in taking what was once a failure and turning it into a success by analyzing what went wrong and making the necessary changes to make a product that is superior to previous models.

Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)

More than just colourful pictures, the complex world of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) can provide valuable information on product performance for all types of fluids and situations. 

 

These studies show flow path behavior, pressure distribution, points of high wear over time, and other fluid interactions that can be used to optimize designs without the need of prohibitively expense physical flow loop testing.
